About the artist:
Katherine is a professional composer of classical music. She has a Masters degree from The Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD where she studied with Dr. Nicholas Maw and served as the Composition Department's graduate assistant. She graduated with a BFA from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, where she studied with Dr. Barbara Jazwinski. Among her prizes and awards are First Prize in The Virginia Delillo Carty Competition, The Ellen Taffe Zwilich Prize in the IAWM Search for New Music, The Leopold Schepp Foundation Scholarship, The Sara I.Nadler Memorial Award in Music, and The Maynard Klein Musicians Award. Her works include two orchestra pieces, an opera scene, several works for smaller chamber ensembles, works for voice, and choir pieces. She is Founder and President of Seeking New Performances, a non-profit music publishing company. Katherine's music has been described by others as "easy to understand, yet deeply intelligent."
The most recent performance of Katherine's work was at The Fairmont Gallery in March of 2003. Her music will also be featured in Joshua Frenk's video "Litter Creek" for Dallas' Earthday Festival on April 22nd of 2003.
She is currently working on composing for the Uber Project and has plans to begin a book/CD with her childhood friend, the sculptor, Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk, to be completed in late 2004.
